The Overnight Fame of Steffi McBride by Andrew Crofts

Film Pilot Released … New possibilities for authors.

We bring you exciting news this month about a regular WWJ contributor, Andrew Crofts, who has been lucky enough to get a pilot of ”The Overnight Fame of Steffi McBride" (the precursor of "The Fabulous Dreams of Maggie de Beer") recently filmed.

The pilot is being launched in three minute segments through "This is Drama" on YouTube. There are a couple of episodes up there already, plus a behind the scenes film trailer here -

Andrew says: “Although this is a relatively new medium, it seems an intriguing way of getting a series into television through the backdoor, although I have to admit I don't completely understand the whole business. The producers have made a number of changes which render things more urban, gritty, ethnic and cool, and there is a strong emphasis on the music, but the voice-over and dialogue and basic scenes are all pretty faithful to the book.”

And is he pleased with the finished result?

Andrew says: "It is very exciting to see this finally coming to fruition. The producers, cast and crew have done the most amazing job of making the series fresh and relevant, gritty and urban without losing the original tone of the book or the voice of Steffi. Jasmine Breinburg - who found overnight fame herself in the Olympic opening ceremony - is completely believable in the lead role, while Jamal Edwards and Jade Ewan add another level of showbiz/music-industry authenticity to the project. I couldn't have asked for a better team to take Steffi to the next stage of her evolution into a superstar."

No doubt this is exciting times for authors with new, up-coming mediums increasingly available. If you have had any experience with ‘This is Drama’ or any of the audio book opportunities in the market, good or bad, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact me at
